Launching The SHE Network: Bowney’s Alumni Program

On August 5, 2024, Bowney Initiative reached a significant milestone with the official launch of its Alumni community, the SHE (See Her Empowered) Network. Held at Baatsona Spintex, the event brought together Alumni , mentors, volunteers, and friends of the Bowney Initiative. The event began with a heartfelt welcome from Grace Amponsah, founder, Bowney Initiative, expressing her gratitude to everyone in attendance. The  opening  developed a sense of community among  participants culminating into  what would be a memorable day.

The SHE Network is a vibrant community of Bowney Alumni dedicated to inspiring and empowering each other to unleash their full potential. The network’s vision is to create a community of young women who inspire one another, break barriers, and reshape the narrative of women and girls on the African continent. By connecting, supporting, and empowering alumni, the SHE Network fosters a sense of responsibility towards themselves and society through advocacy for girls’ education.

During the launch, the keynote speaker  Ms Margaret Andoh, former  president of Bowney club  at Ashesi University  and an Analyst at Open Capital, shared with the girls the importance of living a fulfilled life through community service. She urged the  girls to embrace volunteering as a powerful tool for making a difference in their communities.

The SHE Network is more than just a community; it is a movement led by the girls to take ownership of their  personal and professional development . In co-creating a meaningful community, girls were invited to add their voice to shape the community into one they will enjoy. They suggested meeting monthly online and once a quarter in person. They also agreed to rotate leadership for the first year.

In line with volunteering to lead, the SHE Network’s first leadership team for September to December 2024 was established. Angela Quartey volunteered as  President, Gladys Ayesu as Treasurer, and Joycelyn Honny as Secretary. These young leaders, along with other volunteers, are poised to steer the network toward success,

The launch event also included  a workshop on how to craft a  compelling CV facilitated by Career Peer Advisors from Ashesi University.   By the end of the day, participants were equipped with  new skills  and  with a renewed sense of purpose and belonging.

The SHE Network’s launch marks the beginning of a new chapter for Bowney Initiative, one where empowered women come together to create meaningful change. With a strong leadership team and a clear vision, the SHE Network is set to inspire and uplift its members, driving forward the mission of Bowney Initiative to break barriers and empower the next generation of female leaders.
